The master’s of law (LLM) has become more popular in recent years. It has become almost as popular as the Legal Practice Course in the UK. In the past, the LLM was the next step to teaching law —and the stepping stone to a PhD in law.
Today, with increasing globalisation of law, the LLM has also become a way to expand one’s ability to work internationally. In some countries, an LLM is a better way to obtain qualifications to sit for the bar than working your way through another country’s JD or LLB. (This is true in many US states.)
