The ACE program offers courses for people outside of the undergraduate student population, giving them an opportunity to further their knowledge and professional development through Flagler College.

“The vision is basically how can we serve our community in a larger way?” ACE Director Jorge Herrera said. “There are more communities to serve than 18-year-olds that come from out of state, get a nice degree and then go back.”

ACE has three different divisions, each geared toward a different type of student.

The Lifelong Learning program is designed for the St. Augustine community to expand their skills, whether it be dance, music, language, literature or technology. The classes are split into six-week sessions and there are no exams, homework or credit.

Instead, people come to the classes to socialize, learn new things and just enjoy themselves.

“All studies about longevity, about happiness, about the well-being of humans point to continuing education, making friends, social groups, and Lifelong Learning does all of that,” Herrera said.

Herrera said Lifelong Learning has truly become a community of its own.

“If you look at the menu from watercolor to oil painting to tango, you name it. It’s very inexpensive and open to anybody who wants to take them,” he said. “We feel we have a responsibility to serve our community and that’s a non-money making proposition.”ACE also offers academic test prep for anyone who needs help preparing for exams for graduate school, undergrad admissions or law school.But the latest addition to ACE is designed for professionals to advance in their fields — even if they are outside of St. Augustine.The new Corporate Training and Professional Development courses are all available online in a variety of subjects including accounting and finance, business, hospitality, marketing and more.The courses are flexible and provide accreditation and certificates for professionals to get that new job or promotion.
