Photo by Noelle Olson Isanti County Attorney Jeff Edblad has some help in his office this summer, mentoring two interns: Susan Craig, who is attending Law School at the University of Minnesota, and Logan Olson, a senior at Bethel University.
“I was fortunate enough in college to have internships with local Cambridge attorneys and specifically in the Isanti County Attorney’s Office under former County Attorney Greg Korstad and Assistant County Attorney Scott Hersey,” Edblad said. “It was a really big experience in my life, my education and for my career, so I wanted to make that opportunity that was so meaningful to me available to college students and law school students.”
Edblad said he chooses his interns based on people who reach out and show they have an interest in the opportunity.
“We’re looking for someone who has the initiative to reach out and make that initial connection,” Edblad said. “Once they do that, I like to have the opportunity to sit down and talk to them to see what they want to get out of the experience and what they hope to gain from it.”
Craig graduated from Wheatland Union High School in California.
“I received my undergraduate degree from the University of California Riverside and a medical degree at UCLA School of Medicine,” Craig said. “I am currently at the University of Minnesota Law School and I will graduate next May.”
Craig will miss her law school graduation commencement because her daughter, Laura Fletcher, will be graduating from George Mason University in Virginia, receiving her Ph.D. in psychology.
“I really enjoy both the civil and criminal aspects of law. I feel particularly privileged to work here because Jeff is a constitutional scholar and an endless resource of information and a great teacher,” Craig said. “Isanti County is a special place.
